my parents bought my first horse when I was 18 and they leant me the money for my youngster at the beginning of the year! now they are lending me the money for a trailer! BEST PARENTS EVER
My first horse I took on full loan for 4 months with a view to buy, and worked overtime like a crazy person to save up the £2.5k I needed for him. Did the same with my current horse only had the money from the sale of first horse, so didnt have so much to save up - but worked overtime every spare minute I could
My lovely parents bought mine for me when I was thirteen. My youngster is "owned" by my mother and I am the "rider". He was bought unbacked and I've done him myself - she happy hacks him, which is all she wants to do, and I do the schooling, training and competing. So it works well for us both
I have to admit, I couldnt spend money left to me by my grandparents on a horse. All monies left to me in this way are safely in accounts.., where I can't get to it!
Was very lucky had a horse mad mother who when we bought a smallholding with field could not bare to see empty field! So provided ponies and horses for us. She even used to come everyday to get ponies in from field whilst I was a work so I only had to do evening and morning stables!
Current two yearlings are 'adopted' short term till they are ready to be schooled in a few years, and I am really enjoying them. Adoption fee equalled one weeks pension!
I got my first horse on loan when i was 13/14, worked in a pub washing pots until i had saved the £1400 to buy him when his owner was ready to sell 12 months later. Current horse and ponies have all just been bought with cash in the bank. But i have just paid for my spanky New trailer on the credit card!!!!
