How did you know your horse was "the one" ha?

I was 15 and buying my horse. Tried a loan horse from a rescue, but it had dodget feet.

They an 8 year old mare came up at the yard I was helping at. Took her out, she spooked at everything, cantered in the middle of the road! She was not a first horse and definately not love at first sight!!!

But the owner was very very pregnant, so I carried on riding her to get her ready to be sold. Kind of got hooked, the rest is history, I've still got her 20 years on, and we have had a fab 20 years together.

My other mare I picked up as a foal, she was a nice size, well put together and nice to handle.

When we bought Frank good horses were selling on the spot so we were struggling as we really needed 2 viewings and were definitley having a vetting, we'd seen 10, not quite as described, completely unfit or just not quite right. When he was first advertised he was a bit much and a bit far away, someone else bought him (on the spot) who was very local to us.

Loved him the first time I saw him hacking out. 3 months later it wasn't working so he was up for sale.

We probably paid over the odds as he wasn't really jumping at the time and was hugely overweight but he was nice in every other way and there was just something about him I liked, and still do. He is my first horse and will be here till the end, he has taught me to ride properly, has learnt many new things and is generally just a nice chap to spend time with (most of the time!)

I took Andy (as he was called then - soon became Archie, andy is way too human!) out on the road outside the yard he was on when I went to try him - an A road in a fairly rough part of the Welsh valleys. Got overtaken by boy racers in their mothers' citroen saxos doing about 70mph. He didn't bat an eyelid. We then went to a country park as I wanted to have a gallop and check his brakes. The same boys were in the carpark doing donuts (this was 3pm on a sunday!) and again he walked straight past them. I decided to buy him there and then. The fact that he stopped ok after the gallop was a bonus!!
