How did your horses fare after the gales?

Put ours out at midday when wind had gone down a bit, but it was still blowing like hell. Put lightweight turnout on Rose. When my friend got them in at 5 it had been pouring and wind had got up again. My friend said that they were devils to get in, both of them rearing and that Rosie was naked.

I told her that I had put a rug on her. I felt so guilty as it was really cold and she is due to foal in 8 weeks. Found the rug at the top of the hill, front done up, surcingles undone, fillet string undone, must have blown over her head. God, the thought of that happening and it getting stuck over her head doesn't bear thinking about.

Anyway, she was no worse for wear and wasn't actually cold. I was worried that she would have tweaked her recently healed lame leg, but all seems fine this morning and they are contentedly grazing in the sunshine. Is this all going to happen again tomorrow night?

hi mine are ok a bit spooked but non the worse had to seperate field as had electric cables come down but all ok

we couldnt even out ours out yesterday so they stayed in tucked up and cosy with hay and snack balls. the weather just didnt ease. put them out today but its turning quite bad again so they may have to have afternoon in. its horrible.

Well mine has managed to write herself off completely by tweaking her tendon again. That's the end of her riding career.
The babies (one getting a bit too skinny) are actually ok, which is good because they aren't mine!
All mine are naked and fine, they didn't even finish their hay last night.

My girlie...who is usually quite happy to come in from lunchtime...decided she liked the weather and was happy to stay out grazing away despite the rain and gales!!!
We can never understand her...a totally contrary mare!!!

BUT what gales????????? as it wasn't bad at all in daylight hours woke me up at 4am, but bt the time i got to yard at 6.30am not a problem

Blimey, you must have been in a very sheltered spot, probably got the calm middle of the storm bit for most of it?
It was really wild here in Suffolk, I could hardly stand up when I walked up the hill to find Rose's rug.

nar i just think we had the eye of the storm......... around our way it was defo complete over kill!!!, but i know it was bad in other places, as friends were flood in kernow land

Our local weather reporter last night made acrack about the gales you are all getting further south.Said that the weather was upside down to normal British winter weather, South getting rain and gales and we had a rather calm early spring like day.
Have to say it has been pretty much par for the course this year in my area, been very stormy with the wind and rain, but I would say it has been a very lucky one as we have had no bad snow. Most years we get a period of at leat two weeks when we have such thick snow we cant ride as we only have an outdoor school. On the pluss side is the fact it has help my horses spooking as branches falling and bags blowing infront of him dont bother him at all now, a small branch blew off and went right between his legs one day and he didnt evem twich an ear, a year ago I would be getting carted of home at the gallop!

My boy was tucked up nice and warm yesturday (along with all the other horses at the yard).

He was totally FULL of it this morning when I turned him out though!! And is now nice and muddy!

We didnt really get much wind at all yesterday, was a bit windy at night but just the same as today really. Baron stayed in anyway as with all the rain the fields were like bogs around the gate, we have clay soil and the suction is really bad when it gets very wet and dont want to risk damaging his legs
