Horses that is.

Our two live our 24/7, and being natives they are not yet rugged. It's been raining here on and off for a few days and I have not seen them for a couple of days. When I took their feeds down tonight it was not possible to give them a scritch and a stroke, as both their coats could only be described as having a CRUST.

So, how dirty are yours?

The highland my daugher is riding is also unrugged and in a similar state

mine are a bit dusty (haven't clipped yet, and it's too cold for washing head to tail, plus we're not going out in public at the moment!) but apart from legs splashed a bit with wet mud, they're pretty clean. all 3 have mw rugs on so apart from a bit of mud artistically applied around top of neck and ears, they're cleanish.
i'm spoiling them at the moment bringing them all in at night, they stand by the gate and say "Pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaassssseeeeeee" and i'm a pathetic softy, so they're toasty and dry too. now i'm down to just 3 mares they've all decided they're Princesses.

Not dirty unless they have just been rolling. No mud here apart from around the edges of the pond, and in winter we still don't have any mud which is rather nice actually.

I think I have a whole bunch of prissy horses, apart from being dusty, I could take any of them in swipe the relevant bits with a body brush and go out without them looking embarrassing.

My hairy cob is utterly filthy on the bits that arn`t rugged and stinky on the bits that are!
He likes to pooh in the mud patch by his shelter then have a good roll in it.
He gets all sweaty when ridden between his legs and round his "boy bits" where I can`t clip him and have not the heart to hose him. Yeuk
And, under all this filth he manages to grow a lovely long mane and tail and gorgeous feathers only to rub and scratch then off as soon as spring/summer enables me to bath him and try to make him look posh for shows- no hope really ! : :

We had lots of rain yesterday so my grey is head to toe in mud and looking very pleased with herself about it!

Ours are currently in/out in shifts (mostly so that the stable bully doesn't beat up the babies), we're also painting the stables at the moment and so in addition to the usual mud Mags has managed to give herself a white shoulder which I've tried and failed to shift

Scoob is surprisingly clean - I don't think he ever rolls! There's usually a little bit of mud in his feathers when I bring him in, and the other day he'd managed to smear mud all over his face, but other than that he's been really clean. He stinks of pony BO though - I wish it was a bit warmer so I could give him a bath!

I couldn't find my horse the other night, he had either fallen in the gateway/ rolled in the gateway where the ground is obviously bare and oh my word.. The camoflage worked!!

And he's grey

My grey mare is a weird peach colour from rolling in the sand school. The rest are pretty clean. Especially poppy, but then again she does have her stable rug, an out door rug and a hood on, so it would be a bit strange if she wasnt.

I'm still not rugging so my mare is covered from head to toe in mud and very pleased with herself! Luckily she's chestnut, which IMO is the perfect colour to disguise dirt - dark enough to hide stains and light enough for the dust not to show!

Usually I have a very distinctive tri-coloured gelding, just last night someone was asking me how I manage to keep his grey sections so gleaming white....today after 2 days of rain, he's just an overall crusty hairy beige.

Yes, I forgot to add that they look SO pleased with themselves. Why is that? I suppose it's like little kids playing mud pies.

Trouble is, it's not actually muddy yet.

The weather forecast for the weekend is rain. Oh well, don't suppose anyone we meet out hacking is going to care whether we've groomed them or not

My grey is also crusty and looks like he has been back combed before having a liberal application of thick mud. I am sure he was grinning at me tonight!
