You are entitled to your opinion, AND to voice it, just as I am to mine. This was the comment that made me cross:

"If they can torment and stab bulls for fun then I doubt they would think much of hiring a hitman to set fire to a dozen horses belonging to his rival."

It seems to be me that you ARE making a connection between bullfighting and acts of criminal violence and shocking cruelty. I and others were pointing out that there are people who claim to be animal lovers to are JUST as violent, JUST as criminal and JUST as cruel to humans as well as animals and we hear far more of them than any bullfighters or fans of the sport.

Ok, well I didn't mean to sound like I was making the connection between bullfighting and like you say the acts of violence and cruelty, I don't connect the two but I guess I was just trying to get my head round how someone could do that, hence my first thoughts on it.

Apologies.

Re. Merlin - I agree with Kenzo; I was far too enraged by what was happening to that poor bull to 'appreciate' the skill of horse and rider

But......I agree that you cannot link the arson attack with 'what it takes' to go bull fighting. I dare say there are plenty of supporters of other sports who are as low and lacking in morals to carry out such an attack - just because it is a blood sport does not necessarily mean they will be innately evil.

I'm not mad at you Kenzo - not in the slightest

. I was just confused (hence confused smiley

) at how you couldn't see the great skill shown by the rider and horse in the clip.

The latter paragraph was in reponse to the general discussion

lets not get into a real bull fighting debate. there will never be agreement over it, because on the whole people in this country cannot understand the differnce in upbring and culture that makes those in Spain, Mexico and South America think differently about animals than us.
I think we are all agreed that there are a great many awful cruelties perpetrating against animals or in the name of their rights and that those cruelties are equalled by what humans can do to each other.
I was slightly hoping that by watching merlin there might be a slight realisation that not all preponents of this activity are bad and cruel to animals. As xenophon said about training horses "a horse trained by whip and spur is no more beautiful than a dancer trained by the same method" ergo if the horse is beautiful......?

That Merlin video was amazing, I've never seen a horse move by it.

On the OP I think that its a horrific crime but agree that it has nothing to do with actual bullfighting.

And with relation to bullfighting, I just don't see how anyone can make an informed decision without knowing all the details. I've known anti-hunt people who, once I've actually given them the facts from the 'other side, actually changed their view because they didn't know the details. Because of this I am neither pro or anti bullfighting as I just do no know enough about it and it would be very hypocritical of me to make any sweeping statement about it.
