I am useless at plaiting!! I have a cob and need to know how to do a running plait? As i think i might need to practice, should it stay up the stop or slope down?
Any simple ways to teach me?

Its like a french plait is that what you mean ?I do this on my mare as her mane gets in the way when riding and i always slope down not too much though and always make sure i take even amounts of mane and make sure it is tight. Not sure if thats any help

I always try to do mine as close to the crest as possible - they stay in better for a start.
Take 3 sections at the top of the mane, and cross over as if plaiting normally. When you get back to crossing over the first section, add in another chunk of mane from along the neck with it, then cross over the next section (adding in another lock of hair) etc....
not the best explanation but google running/spanish plaits! plenty of videos!

I find french plaiting harder than this.Just make sure the manes well brushed and have a go.I have one picture but i sloped the plait alot as i did it quickly

very quick and easy, though you need to get it as tight as poss when pulling in the new bits to start otherwise they start to sag. I rarely brushed it first!

Its not my best as i said it really sweeps down .But shows the basic concept.Just keep practising if I can do it .. You will be able to

Good luck !

OP you can do them as tight or loose as you like, I always kept franks along his crest and if you keep the sections quite chunky =5 mins job as I used to have to do it alot to keep him cool in summer. _I've pulled it now.

PMSL Hmm dont think so!! why do you think i used to show her hogged???

Gone traditional now though, but need to do a running plait for hunting so need to practice!!

Split the mane at the top of her neck and plit it into three sections about 1 inch across. Start the plait, but every time you'd usually just fold the hair, add another inch wide chunk. I think it looks better right at your horse's crest, a la...

This photo makes him look really out of proportion, but he's just a 13hh welsh C so very little.

They are so lush- you should see that little pony out hunting! He's gorgeous, but we have to have him basically plaited from head to toe to keep his lovely traditional mane and long flowing tail vaguely nice!
