How do I find out cost of mains electricity please?

All depends how far elec company has to come from substation, if your in a rural area like I was at my yard and was at the end of the line it wasn't possable unless they uprated the station which they wasn't prepared to do. Think thousands rather than hundreds, but I think only your supplier will be able to tell you, sorry cant be more help

Forgot to mention have you investigated the possability of a windmill to charge batteries to an inverter that will give you 240v

You can make it cheaper if you are prepared to do the ground works and lay and appropriate cable, the electricity board will then just connect up both ends. Its much more expensive if the new lines have to cross a road etc. unfortunately it will be thousands though sorry.

tip - when they finally give you a quote, negotiate!!!
we reduced ours by several thousand!

Best way is to phone your nearest electricity supplier and arrange a site visit so they can give you a quote.

Woman down the lane bought some land and told me it cost her £5k to have electricity put to her stabling. I assume that covered everything though...meaning circuit board, meter blah blah as she certainly didn't lay any of the cabling herself.
