I recently had to have my 8 yr old ex racer PTS, very sad times :( Anyway we have a 15.1hh 6 yr old wb x cleveland bay i'm bringing back into work after winter to sell as hubby is too busy with work to do anything with her. Shes green, very keen but still has 'moments', a challenge but fun, just what i'm looking for but bigger, 16.2 ish. I love leggy & I just can't convince myself shes pretty much what i'd go out & buy but smaller  I look fine on her, being 5'7, as she is quite deep but I cant get my head around her height, over a hand smaller than I love. If she doesn't sell then i'll have to work her anyway...any suggestions?!

Fairplay if that made sense because re-reading it i'm not sure that it does!! :p

Size isn't everything........She is what she is; if you really want a bigger horse you can sell this one and go buy what you want "off the shelf", so to speak. Not really an issue, is it?

I know exactly what you mean...!!!
I have ended up with a youngsters that are smaller than I intended. My IDx is 16.1/2 and 5 years...he wasxsupposed to make 17hh. My younger ISH is 3 late summer and 15.3/16hh

**stupid phone sent before I was ready ** :o

So I guess the younger one might make height but I want
ed 17.2+ as Im almost 6ft.
BUT they are both fab horses and Im used to them being smaller. I love them for who they are x

i have pics of me on my 16.1 tb x wb, and again my old mare who was a 15.1 Connie x tb, i look the same on both as the old girl was deeper and had a decent chest. funny i had this same conversation with a friend only the other day. if i have pics side by side you would not think one was any bigger than the other

Go and watch some affiliated under 14.2hh showjumping!!! :D They're amazing, they put most full size horses to shame :D

Give it time, if you give it enough time, a 16.2hh will seem to big ;)

Mine is 14hh short arse so now my daughters 16hh horse seems huge to me, rather than my pony seeming small :D

Honestly it works :p

If you really like her, and you know you're not too big, then you would keep her. If she's good on paper but you still want something else, then don't sweat it. Looks like you might have her for a while yet anyway, maybe its just because she can't compare to the horse who sadly passed away?

It really does work, I used to ride massive heavyweight hunters at work and it seemed perfectly normal that my feet hardly passed the saddle flaps. Then i bought a 13.2 welsh pony now that seems perfectly normal. Went to see my friends 15hh cob the other day and he seemed massive it was like standing next to a giant haha

We were looking for 16hh plus but ended up with our 15.1hh ex racer as a friend had her. Went to look and fell in love as she is a total sweetheart and although we'd like her to make another inch or so when fully grown as she is a bit bum high we wouldn't change her! I've always had 16.2hh plus size from my early teens so she felt tiny at first but now i feel fine on her and she is so fun; polo one day, dressage the next, a fun hack and a great family horse so it has really changed my views on tiddlers! Personality and character make up for any height lost if you have a nice one and as long as they can carry you then better the devil you know if you have a good one! Also easier to be around generally such as tacking up/rugging, less lorry weight, getting on etc.

Agree with that! I got what felt like a midget at 15hh recently. I sent my 17hher away for schooling and even though I saw him every day, now hes back and in the stable next door to my 15hher I question how I ever got on him without a massive block and getting off is painful!

My loan mare was 16.2 and i felt too big on her and always thought i looked too big as well and my friend admited she thought i looked too big as well! My new horse (subject to vetting) is 15.3 and funnily enough i dont feel too big on him and friend says i dont look it either  I'm also 5'7 ;)

I did struggle with the idea of having anything smaller than 16hh but then i met him and fell in love with him and he is just what i need :D

I'm (almost!) 5'7, ride a 14.2 and I hate anything over 16hh! Horses for courses :D

Depends what you want to do with her. Will her height limit her in any discipline in terms of say her ability to jump 1.30 etc? If not, it may just be getting used to her. I went from 17.2 to 14.2 who thank god grew to 15.1 but he still feels like a teeny pony! Less far to fall!

I was just talking about this last night whilst looking at old photos with my dad.
I always felt and looked much better on my 13.3hh new forest than i do on my 16hh and 16.3 tb!

Am thinking now next one will be a native so i will be downsizing again! Much easier to ge on and off!!
