I am starting to shop for a new horse, one thing that concerns me is at wht stage insurance starts from as with my last two the value was low enough that I would have taken a transit accident on the chin.

Do you arrange the insurance following vetting (I will be getting 5* for LOU) and before transport (what if I arrange vetting and take the trailer?).

Any guidance would be much appreciated, I am a worrier, probably wont be getting one for a couple of months but this is niggling me :)

I knew that I would be picking mine up on a certain date so I went so far as to insure her 14 days before that date so that any claim would be valid. I WAS a worrier too. Less so now. I had already paid for her and had a receipt so the insurance was valid.....

when you know your getting it - insure!

I got mine on a sunday and she was kept in until my accident (kick cover)! was valid!!!

i have bad luck with horses!!

said horse came in with a lot of kick marks (she is a tart too) and now on separate turnout! :D

We were going to ring the insurance before we put him in the lorry from the vetting. However. We didn't - we risked it, as it was only a 10min drive home. Not good, though!

You'd be covered for ACCIDENTS within the 14 day period, I believe, just not ILLNESSES.

I insured my last horse the minute he got on to the yard. However, it does make much more sense to have the insurance valid from the day of collection - from the minute it's on the trailer/box.
