How do I know what size my saddle is?

Ok, this is probably a silly question and I'm no doubt going to feel really foolish but ...........

How do I measure my saddle to know what size it is ???

I loan my horse, he is 26 and I think he has had his saddle for most of his life!!

had saddler tonight, she is happy with it, says it fits nice and is in really good condition, but suggested I get a sheepskin halfpad just to lift it slightly. been looking on ebay at the Bartl ones and it says a Medium fits 16 - 17.5 " or Large 17.5 - 19".

How do I know which one will fit?

Measure from the middle of the cantle to the points of the saddle - usually where there is some kind of disk/button just down from the pommel on the skirt.
