My Haflinger has a lovely long flowing mane and tail, but her forelock is just a short, stubby, thick fluffy thing!
How can I make it grow? Is it like human hair that needs a trim to make it grow?
Some of her mane is actually mixed in here:

some horses forelocks just don't grow, i have had my irish draught mare for 18 years, and her forelock as never grown at all, i only ever pulled it once, it is not long but just nice, if only her mane would stay the same.

same with my anglo - was pulled once and has never grown in the 3 yrs that I have had him, although his mane has grown quite a lot.

Sometimes pulling some of the slightly longer hairs will help stimulate it to grow.. Just do a very small amount at first and you should see a difference.. When you do and the forlock looks to be responding then you can do a little more just don't take too much in case she has a mane that wont kick start....

Ditto, I have a 1/4 exmoor 3/4 tb mare that looks like a yak in the winter and has the thickest mane in the world in the summer, but her forelock consists of about 6 hairs. Weird!!
