Want to pull my mares tail tomorrow for a jumping show on sat but havent a clue how to do it. I cannot for the life of me plait tails so thought i would pull it. Can someone tell me how to do it please?

I've never been able to pull a tail to the way I like to see them, after god knows how many years i finally got a friend in to do my youngsters ready for a show, she showed me, but I'm sorry I don't think it's something you can really describe on a website/forum, poss with a video but don't have that i'm afraid!! I needed to see her do it to know what to do, she used a combination of pulling and using a thining rake, only pull from the sides of the tail, but use the rake too so you don't get the balding areas on the sides, use the rake too on the top area. She uses an oster thining rake, which is what i'm now on the look out for and going to do lots of practise!

Carefully ! if she has not had it done before, just take a few hairs at a time from the side, use a comb as you would doing a mane or your fingers.
If she seems ok continue taking hair from each side and work your way down, you will probably be best just doing a good tidy up the first time and bandage it for the show.
I usually take a few weeks to fully pull a tail it then doesnt all grow back at once and you can then keep it tidy by doing a little at a time.
If she wont let you pull, a rake used carefully can do a good job with less risk to you.
