How do I put weight on my TB

Hi can anyone help Ive got a TB and cant seem to get weight on her backend, we have tried different feeds but she is a fussy eater, at the mo she is out on grass during the day then comes in at night to a full haynet of haylage, feed of baileys no4, high fibre cubes, small amount of pasture mix and speedi beet and she wont put anymore weight on. She isnt thin as in seeing her ribs her front end is not the problem, it makes her look to have a long back leg.
If anyone has any suggestions id appreciate it.
Oh yeah she is abit fizzy so I have to be careful not to give her anything that will make her hotter, as we already have her on calmer
 
My sister has had loads of problems getting weight on her TB after he lost a vast amount this winter.

After trying lots of things and getting loads of advice, found that the best things is fibre and oil. He is on Alfa-A Oil Chop, Hi Fi Cubes, soya oil and Fibre beet - also has Coligone and a vit mix in his feed. He's has this split into 3 feeds a day. He is in on a night and has as much haylage as he can eat and also has a bucket of redi grass. He's just moved into a field with loads of grass which is the best thing really. Hope this helps.

erm.. putting weight on.. try her on calm and condition. It non heating and does put condition on. curious.. how did you work out your feed for your mare as you have two types of mix, a high fibre cube and sugar beet.. it seems a bit of an unnessasary amount of different feeds.

I have Ted on Molichop bloom chaff and i have him on 16plus vetren mix. (he was on calm and condition but now needs the msm and glucosamine.) In the winter i will also have him in sugar beet.

I find that high fiber cubes just do the same as she chaff would do and there usually more expensive. The two mixes are pointless. Get her on a conditioning feed soley such as calm and condition (this is soaked) or the baileys no4 soley. You can also try barley ring or barley as it is also none heating but some horses do have alergic reactions to it...

Difficult to say without seeing her but, if it's just her quarters, then I think she needs more work to build muscle there.

Lots and lots of walking, making sure she's working properly and using her back end to propel her forwards.
 
Have to say I wouldn't put a TB on Calm and Condition or anything with too much cereal....stick to a fibre diet.

My friend introduced me to Alphabeet - the stuff is amazing, horses love the taste and it puts weight on V quickly.....i just used it with Alfa A and my boy looks great now!
 
Top spec have a feed with lots of protein and fibre and no cereal.I use the balancer as well with degie alpha with oil .If you ring them they are very helpful.
 
Hi, she is worked nearly everyday, we give her high fibe nuts cos that seems to encourage her to eat and a sprinkle of mix, I thought the grass would have built her up but it hasnt. I wonder whether work is taking to much out of her cos she wasnt rode much before we had her so she was chilled in the field.
 
She seems to be getting a bit of a mish mash of a diet.

Bailey's no.4 is a complete balanced feed, so you don't need to feed anything with it (ie pasture nuts and mix). I personally would cut those out, espcially if you're worried about heating her up - even a cool mix can be heating for some horses. Ensure you are feeding the appropriate amount for the horse, and consider splitting the ration between 3 meals.

You don't say what quality grazing she's on - but if it's good grazing then she may be better out 24/7 on that rather than eating what is now last year's hay.
 
Hi, she is on haylage from the feed merchant, she only has high fibe nuts in cos she wont eat the baileys without it in, she is on good grazing but with it gettin cold at night thought it would be best bringing her in, she is out 13 hours a day, I dont fetch her up till 9pm,
 
Yeah she has a rug on if its cold, been in touch with the feed place for a trail on there feed so I hope that works thanks all for your help,
