How do i start hunting?

so i want to go out hunting this year but ive never gone before and pny is very strong and dont want to jump very big etc
is there a good way to start off?
 
The best way to start is Autumn Hunting which is held usually very early in the morning and will be starting shortly. It is very quiet to start with and you barely come out of a trot, in fact most of the time you just stand about! Jumping is very much optional at this stage and it is the best introduction for a horse who hasn't been hunting before. Look on the MFHA website for your local hunt, contact the secretary and explain that you have not hunted before but would like to start and ask about autumn hunting meets. Everyone is very friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Hope you have a lovely time, it is the best thing in the world.
 
Some packs will also be running newcomers' days or clinics again this year. well worth asking the secretary about those as well.

Good luck and don't forget to let us know how you get on. I hunted mounted for the first time last season and it was awesome.
 
Ring your local hunt secretary and ask about newcomers days, try to get to a couple of socials first so that you can find somebody to pal up with, then you will enjoy your day out all the more. Maybe go out on foot a couple of times so you can have alook at what happens without the pressure of controlling your pony.

thnks everyone i have been offerd to go with a very experienced friend and another wants to take me to excercise the hounds
have been out on foot once...ended up having to waitress at the beginning! spilt water on the huntsman !!!
also i always go and watch when they are out by my place they are up here all the time !!
i cant wait to havea go and im sure my pony will love it too !

OMG i just burst out laughing about huntsman. I remember that you were shaking like a leaf and then he moved and then he was a wet huntsman :p oh well atleast he was friendly and funny x
