Hovis is constantly cutting his face open. Just little cuts around his mouth, down the front of his face - basically all over. Non of them are ever deep nor get infected but because he's got a big white blaze and a pink nose they're really obvious.
He wears a cashel full fly mask when its a warm day to protect his nose from sunburn but that makes no difference to the cuts.
He'll stick his head in anything and has had a couple of cuts right next to his eyes. The boys also all play together all the time and I suspect some of the marks are from the others.
Will i just have to accept my boy will always look like the loser of some play ground tussle or is there anything I can do to toughen his skin up a little?

What about finding him some old horse-armour like this;

Other than that not really sure... Is it witch hazel that is meant to toughen skin up?

Are the fields surrounded by hedges? Is there hawthorn in the hedge?

My horse has regularly and its because he has hawthorn in the hedges around the field and he likes eating hawthorn and he gets cuts from the thorns.

The other day, he came in with a fat lip. I was horrified, but it went down quickly with a huge dab of savlon. He has savlon applied daily and the lump and graze has disappeared.
