How do I stop people feeding my ponies?

Why do some people think its their god given right to do whatever they like? Next time I would definitely threaten him with the police and tell him that you're not running a petting zoo. I also like idea of muck on his lawn, tell him you're only giving back what he's been stuffing into them, technically his property! Or perhaps stuff a load through his letter box?

I keep my ponies on a drove, its not a public right of way and is off the beaten track. I sometimes leave a bale of hay outside the gate so I don't keep having to take the car. Someone 'kindly' fed my ponies half a bale, some people just think they can do anything.

I've not had any problems in a while but when I had mine at livery we were constantly asking one neighbour not to throw over lawn cuttings
Recently someone I know in the village who has several horses including a youngster asked if we knew any young girls fitting certain descriptions who keep going in to feed her horses. That's not all, they were also seen trying to get the horses into a barn with all their riding gear on  My sister-in-law knew exactly who they were, just horse-mad kids, needless to say the parents received a rather concerning call.

We had similar problems when we were at livery. The YO had created a tractor track, so that he could drive round to fill the water troughs. Some people decided that these were ideal to walk round and feed the horses. One of our mares was severly intolerant of all sorts of sugars and cereals, so the day we found the elderly man feeding her the best part of a sliced loaf, we asked him not to. The reply we got was that he often did it, he took a couple of slices out of the loaf for himself, and fed the rest to the horses and that they liked it. We explained about the mares health problems, the answer to that was that she looked fine to him  We ended up being quite rude to him and threatening him with suing if he continued.
I quite like the idea of taking the muck round, can't see that that is any more ilegal than his feeding your horse.

Unfortunately, I think being quite verbally rude and even abusive might be the only solution. I told two Dads and their various kids to stop chucking carrots atthe horses' heads (!!) and was asked what can they be fed then?! When I said nothing, they demanded to know why!! Er, because they're privately owned and we're not a fricking zoo!

Tampering with another person's property when you're aware that it might cause harm is criminal damage. Phone the police and explain that the horse is under veterinary supervision and could be harmed if fed inappropriate foods but this person persists even though advised not to do it.
