My college is doing a number of events to raise money for Comic Relief and i have ALWAYS wanted to do a sponsored ride. However there are a few obstacles so i dont think we could do a ride on college land. Any ideas how i could keep my idea? The horses cannot be taken off college property so obviously i cant use their horses, and i dont know many people so would not like to do it at home.

Do you mean do one as in organise it? This is a big project!
You need to find the land, a private estate is ideal, as you want to avoid roads as much as possible, you need to advertise, print flyers and entry/sponsorship forms, book toilets, rosettes, paramedics, photographer, refreshments and find volunteers to steward, do entries, advance signing (you need to make the signs too), stewards for road crossings, clear up and take down all signs afterwards..oh and pay for insurance. You can assume it will cost at least £1000 to run the ride, so you need to cover that AND make money for charity

Still sound like a good idea?

If you are really set on doing it I suggest you research local riding clubs/BHS/Horsewatch..they have expertise in running events and may be prepared to share the profits on an event in return for help..although that does cause problems for insurance. Alternatively, you could sponsor a class at a local show and provide stewards, in return for class profits..clear round jumping can be a nice little earner in that respect
