it would make my life so much easier and would save him money as i wouldnt need as many lessons, or hiring arenas! and hopefully we could improve quicker also..

he could do a lot of it himself as well btw

any tips??

Go cost it and give him a business plan type of thing.

I think that sillica sand and chopped rubber is quite economical. And if you don't put a membrane down I think that he can do something funny through the farm accounts (or is it planning??) where it counts as a stock yard, not a school......
 
well thing is he could do the groundwork by himself really, and the drainage as he has a digger, which he is very handy with. He knows a man well who does them often and has had chats with him about arenas and this chap has just constructed a huge one nearby which is fantastic. The problem is the money really, he has been told by numerous people that to put a decent enough one in its going to cost £20000 at least; and we would need to put the extra effort into drainage as our land can get wet. Also whereever we put it we wouldnt use our paddock so that would mean eating up another piece of farmland.

he must know by now that the horses are not just a phase as i have had them for 7 or so years now..but then i guess he could argue that i have managed without.!

we shall see!
 
Our menage was re-vamped over the summer. The surface cost around £5k in total - to replace the fencing would have been around £3k.
 
Thanks for that:) i mean another thing we could do ourselves is the fencing, i dont mind mucking in!! the main cost i think would be the actual surface itself, and just any materials such as membranes, the labour cost would be cut down if dad could do it himself.
 
I didn't fence mine to save money and planted a hedge instead. I dont want to tuen out on it so didn't see the need. i would def put membrane down tho or you ll loose the surface down the drains
