I sympathise with you... i do think that there is an important difference between YOU watching someone riding your horse and thinking "wow doesn't he go well for that person" and someone commenting on how much better the horse is going - especially an instructor in a lesson envirnonment.
I think if an instructor said to me "I don't know what you do to that horse, Polly goes so much better for xxx " I would be pretty upset, not because I don't like other people riding better than me but because it is a rather unkind and unconstructive comment.
I love to see Polly going well for someone else but I wouldn't then want to be compared to them when I was trying to learn how to improve myself unless it was... "did you see the way so-and-so used her legs like that..." or something helpful like that.
I absolutely love it. I just love knowing my horse is better than I thought he was. Also it is nice to swap notes with how someone gets that little extra from the horse.
i love it when other people ride my horse and get a tune out of her, she takes the P out of me big time as i have just got back into riding after 20 years. my friends 15 year old comes and jumps her over decent size fences to keep her hand in and my 13 year old gets on her and off she goes like a rocket ,walking out properly etc etc.when i get on her she goes into snail mode and makes me really work!
Luckily no-one can ride my anglo better than me - I'm his 'human' and he doesn't really respond to anyone else riding him, just looks for me. If I'm out of sight then perhaps they would be able to get a tune out of him... think its quite a common arab trait though..
My friend got on my welsh the other day and got her going more off the leg. I was a little miffed, but the reason she succeeded is cause she's got more guts than me - she'll push a pony more and see how far she can take it, whereas I'd rather play safe!
I think if anybody DID manage to actually ride the anglo I'd go off bawling
