Hi, vet came and scraped away some of the sole (there was already a little hole) some pus came out but I think there is more to come.

I've seen people talking about honey, salt and all sorts as part of a poultice. The vet has given me some dressings and said to put a hot poultice on for the next few days and see how it goes.

Just wondering what others have done to treat an abscess,

thanks

I do hot poultice twice a day until there's no pus appearing (usually around 3 days) and then dry poultice for a couple of days. Then finally plug the hole with some cottonwool (oddly it never seems to fall out if well packed in)

My girl had an abscess a few weeks ago. I hot tubbed it with Epson salts, then put hot poultice on daily until it burst out in her heel bulb after 3 days. Farrier found entry point a couple of days later in her sole. She's been fine since it burst.

I have had abscess in the sole recently.

I had to tub twice a day with Epsom salts then put 2 x animalintex twice too.

I do this for 4-5 days then check with vet. If nothing more comes out and horse is more comfortable , we switch to dry poultice for a week .
then go from there.:)
