How do you afford to buy more horses?

I'm generally very tight when it comes to buying horses! I just struggle to justify significant amounts being spent on something that can kill itself the next day.
Most of mine have been cheapies - either someone else's reject or youngstock.
Aside from those one was a 5k 4yo that turned out to be a dud and my current mare was a decent sum but was a gift from my parents as they figured I was never getting married so gave me my wedding fund to buy half lol!!
I reckon the most I will spend out to get a 4yo will be the foal from my mare, he'd better be up to scratch!!!

I only work part-time but thankfully my husband enjoys horses too so he doesn't mind me spending his money on them!! We rent a private yard so the livery cost is the same for one - or the 4 that we have. Two of them are yearlings so whilst they were cheap to buy, they are basically just eating machines for the next 3 to 4 years. But watching them play and educating them slowly is incredibly rewarding so the costs are well worth it.
