How do you all afford to take your BHS stages?

I think £1000 for a professional qualification is cheap.

My professional qualification cost considerably more. First there was my degree, then a post graduate diploma at £10k (and that was ten years ago) and then there was the two years "on the job training" when you are paid a low salary with more exam fees as you go along, then there is the hundreds of pounds membership of my professional body every year, and the fees for continuing professional development each year.

The stages are expensive if you are doing them as part of a hobby but cheap if you see them as a professional qualification.

I have got my stage 1 and 2 and next year I'm planning on starting a parttime dipolma which costs 1500 a year for 6 years. While progressing through the bhs to.
I've left school 9years ago and have been teaching, both in a riding school and freelance for 7 years. Because its what I love doing, I'm just behind in qualifications because of a lot of personal factors!
I have taught 2 lessons for an article in irelands equestrain.
And though ill agree a lot of people full trained don't have a clue, but how is that different from any other career?
Also yes in bhs exams there's a lot of stuff you have to do and procedures you have to follow that day to day you never do, but their main factor is health and safety for you and the horse. So if you know your salt, they will overlook wee things, so in my minds eye its all money well spent, and the exams are actualy fun!
