how do you all weigh hay or horsehage?

This is our home made from a dumpy bag sling, and the scales are very old but brilliant to see without glasses 🙄
Thanks for the pics. I am madly, beyond madly, in love with your scales as I have difficulty reading without glasses. Really struggling to find similar. I can't read the spring balances without glasses and having to put those on and off is a PITA.

sadly mine can't manage ad lib. "Billy Bunter" comes to mind!!

thanks for the comments. I have a selection of bins and bags coming from Amazon. I do like shopping for bins. :):)

In which case i would be feeding part of it soaked so it’s not so palatable thus there always being some available. Even my laminitic is ad lib.

I use a digital suitcase scale hook, if you don’t want to net it you could use a big IKEA blue bag, I always have them at the yard for carrying hay!

it's all soaked, I never feed dry hay. I'm afraid ad lib for my lad would be an entire bale a day.:D:D:D The aim is weight loss so restricted.
If you're aiming for the same every day, hiw about putting a thin bit of white tape on the spring balance where you need weight up to..
thanks. I have put white marks on, several of them, as I am weighing for 4 horses all for different reasons. But I still need glasses which are a PITA

These are ancient Milk Marketing Scales (used to make sure that the farmer wasn't watering down his milk as milk weighs more than water - who knew!!) Try googling them, I would be lost without them and I can weigh the bag then zero the scales according to the weight of the bag or hay net. Edited to add Found these - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153621228531

thanks for that. I should have recognised what they were. I have seen plenty in the past. :D

we have a couple of old milking farms around us where I'm sure the barns won't have been cleared out. I will ask OH to speak to them and see if there are any lying around.
Thanks again.
