How do you become a horse transporter

Have just bought a smashing 3.5t horsebox and fancy doing a bit of legal horse transport. Can anyone help with the rules & regs. Obviously would need to be insured for hire & reward, but what else???? Am just planning to do local horse transport in East Anglia.

I believe you need a carrier licence, probably need to take X number of courses and pay Y amount of £s.

i just about to become a horse trainsporter myself you dont need an opperators liecense for under 3.5t you do need certicates of compantcy and insurance lucky for me you dont need to be able to spell lol !

Lisa2 many ponies, you joke, but in fact presentation is a big part of selling yourself. Spelling does help as you will have to provide quotes etc.

Transporting is flipping hard work, long hours and not a huge return. Don't forget to budget for liability insurance aswell and to notify revenue & customs as you have national insurance to pay and eventually, tax.

Putting a business plan together will show if there is actually a need in your particular area and the business you are likely to get. It is more than buying a box and then transporting peoples horses. Good luck.
