Bang them on the wall

I drag the stiffer brushes through the softer brushes, then drag the hoof pick through the stiff brushes and bang them on the wall.

But then where I live the ground is very sandy and in any case we rarely go out for a hack these days, so the horses are usually very clean.

And bay horses, unlike greys, don't seem to have the same magical power of being able to find mud and clay in a desert.

I haven’t cleaned mine in forever. On a day to day basis I only really use a jelly rubber curry comb to loosen grease and hair and to massage and a flick over with a dandy to remove anything loosened up. I’ve a set of Haas brushes for show preparation and special occasions but as I don’t do many then they don’t get a lot of use.

Washing machine or dishwasher for me, too. My Haas and Oster brushes have always come up like new after doing this.

Curry comb dirt and hair out first. Then a bucket of hot water. Fairy liquid and a scoop of soda crystals. Rinse well leave in sun or hot room over night to dry.
