After an event/jumping on hard ground, how do you look after legs? I'm trying to work out and plan a regime for after the xc phase and would be interested on knowing others.
Mine get washed down all over and including legs with cold water and a soothing wash (smells gorgeous!!) Then once legs are checked over for any scrapes cuts etc they have like ice on and are bandaged.
Bandages come off at home and the legs are hosed, as seemed to work well on all my horses - touch wood!
I use Gelcels (activated in cold water) or just started using Equ 'n Ice (think that is the name of them) bandages that stay cold for 2 hours and you can "recharge" them. Also use witch hazel and arnica gel.
My routine after every jumping session or faster work involved hosing down for a few minutes, then applying Leovet Cool Pack - fantastic smell, no residue, and seemed to worked well (used it for over 6 years on show jumpers). On some horses we also used the cold pack plus which, after first cooling phase switched into a gentle heating phase.
Some horses with galls were also bandaged over night.
