For me, I've been searching for a job for over 3 months now. I've found things that seem perfect, needless to say I get my hopes up only to feel worse afterwards. In the past week alone I've called 33 places but the truth is that nobody is hiring in this current climate. I've never felt so close to quitting and going in a different direction but this is all I've wanted since I was a tiny little girl playing with toy ponies.

So my question is, regardless of the cirumstances -How do you deal with dissapointment in the equine world?

I can't speak about the equine industry but I also work in a business that is very cyclical (goes up and down with the economy). For me the last down turn in my career was a great opportunity to get more involved with horses. It isn't something I think I'm likely to do professionally but a lot of the more transferable skills and aspects of working with different people are useful now I'm back to my main career.

So, when you were playing with horses was there anything else you enjoyed? You might find that a slightly related or even totally different option could be valuable to you later. E.g temping in offices could give you useful customer relations and admin skills. Booking keeping or managing orders and deliveries... The horsey world isn't just about horses, it is about all the same things any other business needs to do too.

It is tough but maybe if you widen your search a little you could pick up some useful skills that make you even more employable when things pick up again.

Best of luck.

Hi, sorry you're feeling down at the moment.

I can't really help in the equine sense, but I deal with rejection by having a big old cry.

Then looking at something totally different and far more insane for a few days/weeks/months before coming to my senses and going back to what I truly want to do. I then have a clear mind and a better attitude compared to what I would have done if I had simply ploughed on.

Hope this helps :) and good luck!

Thanks for the lovely comments everyone :-)

I actually have a Law Diploma behind me so if all else fails I'll go back into that, I've expanded my horizons by looking for work within offices that supply horse feed or horse jumps. So we'll see how it all goes!

Have you triee Weatherbeeta, they are based in Banbury? I've worked for a few Equine companies and found that once you have worked for one, suddenly it is really easy to get jobs within the industry!

Chin up and keep trying, thats what I did and eventually it paided off!:D

I will definitely give them a call tomorrow, thank you for letting me know. It might be a tad far but I'd get up at 5am just to get there!

I'm glad it paid off for you, I'll use that as encouragement!

Are you registered with some agencies? Where are you looking for jobs? It took me a long time to get a job last year (I left one and didn't want to go to a similar role really) and that's not in an equine position so you're not alone. I think there'sa few agencies you could register with one beinge equinecareers I think. I think there's also goddard gadd who are agents for equine and canine jobs. They may have changed their name now though, not sure.

I'm not, I'll look into it. I've basically been ringing every stable/riding school/livery yard within a 20 mile radius of my town and seeing what happens. I've posted job advertisements on Gumtree, Preloved, Equine Adverts. I've also asked around on Twitter, nothing as of yet.

Thanks for your feedback! :-)

I checked it out but unfortunately they must have changed their name, it came up with an agency that deals with business/law related work. Thanks though, really nice to know that people care :-)

I'm just so fed up of getting my hopes up, having really productive days where I email 20+ people and hearing nothing back.
