How do you do your beds, across the length of the stable or along the 'short side'?

People are just very afraid of shoes in haynets I think, we have people who do the same here.

My stable is square and at the end of the barn so I just picked the solid wall side without the door and drinker and bedded that half. She makes her own bed shape or lies half on half off the bed and always in at least some poo so it doesn't really matter probably.
 
mine have a full bed to the door as my stables are really a bit smaller than i would like (they are 12 x 11.5)

I much prefer straw but little shettie gets a cough on straw.

No need to do banks for Bo as he likes to throw the shavings up himself and create a nest in the centre of his bed. He also likes to use one of the banks he's created as a pillow.
 
I only do corner beds in summer as they only come in for around 6 hours and just stand and eat or stand and snooze. So around 1/4 to 1/3 of the stable bedded down. They’re on straw so beds are deep enough for wet to run to the bottom and bed to stay clean and dry on top, they don’t generally lie down but they have done so clearly happy with the arrangement. I prefer it as less bedding means I can keep beds fresher. When they switch to daytime turnout and in at night though I bed the full back 3/4 of the stable. My stables are fully rubber matted.
 
I do a full straw bed with shavings round his wet hay feeders. Stable is only partly matted but would probably do full bed anyway.
 
I used to do big straw beds with banks on 2 sides- back and external side as the stables were smaller than I'd have liked. We now have bigger stables but can't use straw so I have full bed along the width of the stables and banking at the back wall. My mats go up the side of the side walls about 6 inches. In the Winter when they're in more often they will have bigger bankings and at all 3 sides. Hay and water at the front.
