For those that film their riding or have youtube channels - how do you get good film? My dad films me sometimes but he doesn't always stay. I would like to get a riding head cam but they're quite expensive. Does it work if you put your camera (or in my case iPod) just outside the school somewhere near the fence?
Sorry bit of a silly question but thanks xx

I always do my daughters just off my phone, a HTC One. Quality is great & then I make snippets into movies with Windows movie maker xx

i dont often have someone to film so i put my little canon compact on the fence, hit record and off i go. then put it on movie maker to edit :)

Put your camera on a post, or better still a tripod, look through the view finder to check what will be in the picture, mark the outside edges of the frame on the ground, set the camera running and go and do your stuff. Then, when you've got your footage, edit as above.

You can mark the edges of the frame with a coupe of electric fence posts or stones or something like that and make sure all the important action takes pace within that frame. Change camera angles and frame sizes or your video will be very boring. And don't forget close ups, e.g. head shots, moving feet, etc.

The BBC produced some excellent notes for their trainee cameramen which were later published in book form. I strongly recommend you get a copy. The price won't hurt much either!
