how do you find your perfect horse!?

Be totally honest about your abilities & want you want to do with your horse. Go for what is right, not for what you would like to be right to suit any ego. Too many but something inappropriate. A good friend bought a qhxtb, as she doesn't do cobs. She's had no end of trouble as to be frank horse way too sharp for her. She's now found she really enjoys hacking out a friends good natured cob. If she'd set ego aside, she'd have enjoyed the last 10 years so much more. See it so often.

Trial and error. Even with the best intentions and experienced help I'm a firm believer that you never really know what you've got till you get it home. Make sure you try it in all the situations you will have at home. Make sure it is sound, safe and healthy and be prepared to sell on if it doesnt work out.

Thanks for so many replies it's really helpful.

It is very easy to get carried away and would be easy to buy something unsuitable, I am trying to keep her feet on the ground and buy the xc school master that she's looking for.
The most important thing is that he you head him towards a jump, he will jump it without encouragement from the rider.

It feels wrong saying we want a horse thst will jump anything willingly, but she really hasn't got the confidence jumping to have anything else.

Ooo tell more... Love horse shopping when it's not me doing it...

Gutted about Percy! But he was too expensive for us :(

So Joey a 15hh connemara nearly 7 years old dun. Hunted in Ireland and has spent the last year being schooled intended for a pony club child to move from ponies to horses.
He's absolutely fab! Just pops any jump even if you have second thoughts about it, and is calm and collected cantering round a field.

Aww I'm sorry Percy was out budget :(

But that boy sounds great! Can't wait to see pics...

You can't go wrong with a connie
