How do you fit it all in?

Like most people I have to work to earn a living and keep my horses in the manner to which they have become acustomed and like most people I look forward to the weekends. However, there just isn't enough hours in the day or days in the weekend to fit everything in! lol

I had to go shopping for essentials on saturday, sort out the garden, ride my horse and cook and today by the time I had come back from seeing to the horses and sorted the washing and tumble drying out and hung 2 sets of long curtains, back from dry cleaners as cat decided to pee on them, it was almost lunch time, I then had the housework to do which only left me time to lunge my horse this afternoon before coming home to cook tea. And so on. Weekend almost over!

How do people who compete with their horses regularly manage to fit in housework and other such mundain chores? I'm not a house proud person but I do like to keep on top of housework, washing and ironing etc. and I would love to take my horse out more but can't face the thought of having double chores to do because of it! Husband tends to take care of outside ( which only involves cutting the grass in the garden ) and I ' do' the inside! With the nights drawing in there will be even less outside time to do stuff now :-(

My life is a massive juggling act. I work part time for my husband business, run an equine website, have a horse and two others to look after and then two teenage boys to run. I honestly don't sit down until about 9pm at night and then I nod off! I like you, have a house to run and I do like it being in order as I seem to stress when you can't get in the spare room for ironing.
However I am NOT moaning, I love my life and sometimes things do give to try and make life easier but I'm sure I would be so bored without it all!

I don't, I have 2 kids, 2 dogs, a horse and chickens! I work part time, have a cleaner 3 hours a week and I still struggle. Mind you my husband doesn't do the garden either!! So, it's a case of washing machine loaded at strange hours, ironing in the evening, fitting in jobs when it is dark and prioritising riding over the mundane stuff!!! If I worked full time it would be impossible!!

Tend to do a lot of stuff on line in the evenings. Like my Christmas shopping and anything that you can't get in Tesco!!!

Wouldn't change things for the world though.

If your horses are the things that stress you out make sure you get them done first in daylight hours, all the 'home' stuff can be done when the lights gone (except gardening of course!).

I have 2 horses of my own, both in full work and competing, 2 full liveries and my mum's horse. I work full time and have 2 dogs, 9 chickens and 2 guinea pigs!

Invest in a slow cooker - a godsend, nearly all our meals are done in it.
Invest in a tumble drier - makes life a lot easier, straight from washing machine to drier, job done!
Do your food shopping online - amazed how much that has helped me save time (and money as I don't buy crap!)

Mine are clipped right out and will be living out as long as possible, or as long as it's dry enough - this also helps save time atm.

Deep litter beds - mine are on straw and matting, takes about 5-10 mins per box as I don't skimp on bedding, all my beds are done by the time they horses have eaten their breakfast, allowing me to get straight on and ride. Muck out properly at w/e takes about an hours to do 4 boxes, my mum does hers.

Don't change rugs - unless they are caked in wet, sloppy mud.

Feed hay loose on floor - better for your horse if they are tidy enough - saves filling hay nets.

Simples :)

As mentioned above:

Dont change rugs - leave in t/o
Deep litter beds
Dont iron - choose clothes wisely - I havent ironed anything since 2005 :)
If you can afford it buy help - eg if your OH must wear shirts send them out for ironing - paying for some services to avoid arguements/spend time together if you are both working is money well spent.

Limit your housework time - give yourself 1 or 2 hours once a week to do housework chores - while the washing in on do a quick blast round the house. A messy house is a happy house! Prioritise bathroom and kitchen.

I dont cook - this save a LOT of time (and mess) but I realise this is not practical for everyone!

Housework gets relegated :)

I live alone and have a full time job, run a small business, have two horses and two dogs.

I looked at the things I really don't like doing - gardening, cleaning and ironing and then found local people to do it for me:) The lady who does my ironing has given up so I need to find some one else:o

Yes its costs money but when you live alone something has to give as you just can't do it all - don't beat yourself but just decide what you can easily farm out.

Horse is on full livery otherwise I wouldn't cope.

I work full time, often working away, 2 children 2yrs and 5 yrs old and a husband who does his fair share although it has taken 7 years to train him :D.

I used to have a horse on DIY when my eldest was a baby, hubby did nothing around the house, looking after baby etc, worked full time - never again!

Hubby encouraged me to get another horse so I made damn sure he was going to pull his weight. He's always done most of the cooking as I tend to poison people when I cook and he now helps out with washing and ironing. We shop online and I do the housework at the weekend with a flick over during the week.

It's not the end of the world if the house is a little messy and alot of clothes require very little ironing if you're clever about it ;)

I work full time 8.30 till at least 6 plus on call 1 in 6 evenings and weekends. My horse is on DIY livery.

I get up early to do horse before work, it's easier in the summer as he is out 24/7 so I only have to go up once a day (always people about to keep an eye on him for me). If I'm on call or out in the evening I usually ride in the morning. Housework gets neglected! I live on my own so it doesn't offend anyone else! I've given up ironing more or less, apart from show shirts and going out clothes!

I work full time doing shifts so I often get 3 or 4 days off at a time. I have 2 horses on DIY. On the days I am working my house doesnt really get cleaned as I just dont have the time. :o

On my days off I get up and shove a load in the wash. I drive to the yard and feed the horses. Whilst they are having breakfast I fill nets. They live in their turnouts so they then go straight out whilst I muck out. I have dirt floors so have a load of wood chip with straw on top so there is no wet. It saves me loads of time. Fetch horse in ride, and then throw back out for the rest of the day. By now its usually lunch time I either then go home or go where ever I need to, eg, Asda. If I'm home I will do some house work, take washing out and throw in dryer, no need to iron.

Go back, put horses in, feed them, go home. Prepare tea and whilst its cooking I will either clean or have a shower. Eat tea and slump on sofa.

In winter I do get grumpy from working so many hours and having no sleep.
