This sounds really sad, but i would love to earn just one point in eventing, but dont know how the system works!!

I know you can only get them at novice level (which i hope to be at by the end of next season), but do you get one if you go clear XC, or do you need a double clear??

You need to go Novice eventing - and get a double clear round and you will get one point.
The higher you go in terms of advanced the more points you get.

Hope this helps

I did novice with my mum's horse and only ever did a sj clear once and then had a very uncharacteristic run out at the last fence xc! So near but so far. Good thing is though now my mum can do intros on an experienced horse who never managed another sj clear!

!! Realistically i Dont think he is actually capable of anything more than a 33/34, and even that would be fantastic and pushing to our limits!! I suppose though if it all goes well in dressage, and everyone else does badly we may have a tiny weeny chance of getting placed!!
thing is, i was told by the vets 3 years a go that i would never be able to jump my horse, so even to get to novice level would be a dream come true!!

Go for it and have fun. We went some fab events at Novice with Holly. You do find though that if the event runs Novice upwards they tend to be more challenging than the courses that run Intro to Novice. Dont know if this is everywhere but certainly is the case up here.

I noticed that the courses here that only run intro/PN/OPN seem much more inviting than those that dont do intro, but start with PN upwards
Not sure if its like that for all courses, but thats generally the advice that i've always been given
Will keep an eye out for an "easier" novice course to set our sights for next year!!

God damn it, I didnt know you got points for double clears (I thought it was JUST certain placings). Ive always had 4 faults in the SJ in the very few novices Ive done! Darn it!

Although quick query - I was 6th at one, but the placings only seemed to go down to 5th on the board (I was sent my rossette ages later). There weren't that many in the class, does it depend on how many are in it? Or do points always go down to 6th?!

Points are awarded for placings on a 1 in 4 basis. So if you were 6th (and didn't have a double clear) there would have had to have been over 23 starters for you to get the point. You can access all the rules via the BE website if you go to Downloads.
