How do you get your horse to stop??

Mine are Spanish-trained so all stop at a whistle...which is great until you have a dry mouth for any reason ?. As others have said, whichever cue you use needs to be trained in-hand first - horses aren't born knowing a particular cue!

Or if you can't whistle. A majority of the people at the yard cannot whistle apparently. including the friend that cares for my horse when I'm ill or away ? but they figure it out.

This brrrrp sound the Germans make Rev him up/make him nervous as opposed to slowing him. So...that doesn't work.
