how do you give a sharer a rap on the knuckles?

Are you serious? Sounds like a dream come true! Seriously the arrangement is ridiculous & has probably attracted the wrong kind of person (ie. p*ss taker) I would tell her the agreement is off straight away.

Those with sharer 'pay per view' arrangements why not ask them to set up a standing order for the 1st of the month (or whenever they get paid) for the payment - then you have some sort of commitment - even if it's only £15/£20 a week people will turn up if they have paid.

It takes 2 mins to set up a SO and then there's no chasing around for the cash which can always be a bit tricky!

Personally I would explain that it's not working the way you had hoped and unless the cancelling improves you will need to reconsider the arrangement. She might be looking for an excuse for out anyway?

Had a rethink, she doesn't know how lucky she is so tell her it's not working and find someone else.

I share a horse and pay a flat sum of £20 per week.Recently I was really ill and couldn't ride for a week. I debated whether to pay for that week or ask the owner if it was ok that I didn't pay but in the end I decided to just pay as normal because the horse still costs money that week even if I don't ride. Also, we have an arrangement and I didn't think it was fair not to pay even if I couldn't make it. Maybe I'm too kind but I really like the owner and she has been extremely flexible so I want to be fair to her as well.

I don't envy those who are trying to find a sharer as it sounds like there are lots of idiots out there...

This is what mine was meant to do but it's like she has no conscience...
The arrangement was £15 a week to ride my horse 3 times a week and no chores just feed after riding!

Think she took that as £5 a ride so I'll just pay a fiver when ever I can be arsed to turn up...

This thread has been helpful to me actually think I'm going to tell her if she lets me down one last time she's a goner...

god some people sound so inconsiderate! I pay £15 a week (standing order of £60 on the first of each month) for 1 day a week, but owners always let me come up extra days with no extra payment as im helping them out- if I couldn't get there one week I wouldn't expect to have to pay!

I feel bad when I get there late a pony is in the field on her own!! let alone not turning up at all or phoning owner to say come get your horse in!

Gosh you really have been way too kind! I share my boy 4 days per week and I pay a set amount each month, regardless of whether I can get there or not. For instance if I'm being a wimp and dont want to ride in the rain, I still pay and I'll still go up and give him his dinner anyway because I like to see him :) I dont want him to associate me as the lady who makes him do work all the time, sometimes I like to be the lady with food too!

My lessons are not paid for either, while the horse needs some improving in some areas I see the lessons more for my own benefit so I'd never dream of letting his owner pay for them! Maybe go halves if the owner was really keen for me to have a lesson with a certain instructor, but never let him pay in full. Likewise with comps - it is me that wants to do dressage (I'm sure Denby and his owner couldnt care less if they went out to comps or not!) so I pay for it. I'm unaff now but even if I went aff and the horse started getting points (hence improving value) I still wouldnt want him to pay, it is my own ambition and my own hobby so I fork out for it.

Definitely be much stricter next time - it should always be your way or the highway, this is your horse so your rules and if the sharer is not up to scratch there are plenty more out there who are reliable and will actually want to enjoy time with your horse.
