The gelding is very ticklish, so it has to be a stiff brush with firm pressure. The mare will be groomed all day, every day, with whatever is available and she will groom you in return. I used to have a mare who loved having her tail area scratched so much that she would run up to you backwards which is quite unnerving until you realised that the kicking end was just being presented for a good scratch, she was also the horse that could be put into a comatose state by just stroking her ears.
