How do you insure your tack?

After all the recent thefts I realised my tack isn't insured whilst it is kept at my yard. The tack room is inside an alarmed and padlocked barn with motion sensors. I looked into adding it onto my horse insurance but they wouldn't cover the full amount of my tack and it also pushed my premium up. Does anywhere do a specific tack insurance?

IIRC all insurers require deadlocks on the doors and locks on windows too, regardless of where you keep it, so if you've got a padlocked barn then you're not likely to get cover anywhere?

I have had it on my horse insurance before which was quite expensive but I did have £4k cover. Then I took it home and added the saddles onto my house insurance BUT i did have to shop around for a company that would provide £2k cover for each item.
If I was looking for cover again I'd probably ask my horse insurers to cover it with it kept at my home address. Our tack room at the yard wouldn't meet the requirements so I keep it at home anyway.

If you keep it at home, it is automatically insured - from the old days with house contents best to contact them in case you need to notify them of make and value..

If you put is as all risks on your home insurance then it is covered wherever you are. But just be careful of your single item limit - if you have a very low limit then you will need to list separately which pushes your premium up. (Or swap to an insurer with a higher notified item limit.)
