Does anyone have any suggestions, because Bella is grey skewbald, but at the moment looks a rare shade of green and brown skewbald! We have the Gallop shampoo for greys, but have not yet been able to use it as it hasn't been warm enough to bath her. She gets groomed once or twice a day, but it just doesn't come out. Any suggestions?
Thanks :)

i use lavender wash on taz as it only takes a wee bit to get it off and usually just wash the stains off, but then taz spends most of his time rugged up as he gets cold easily

My grey is now out 24/7 for the first time and to my surprise I haven't had to give him a bath yet this year :) I think a shiny-lined rug is the answer. I have him in an Amigo summer turnout which seems to clean all the muck off him. I groom him daily. I had a dressage comp last week and I put him in his full body fly rug for the day, then gave him a good groom - that got him nice and clean. Just had to wash his legs and tail.
I use cowboy magic green spot remover for stubborn marks. I use Wahl Diamond White shampoo for washing him. Seven Day Mud Away in his mane/tail keeps it cleaner longer. And I sponge off his sweat after riding every day with plain water so I don;t strip his natural oils. I think his natural oils must be repelling dirt too.

Hope that helps!

Dip her into a huge bath full of tippex?

No idea! Mines ginger and white but tbh, the whites pretty ginger looking as well!

Thanks :) I would put a rug on her, but she;s a big cobby thing, and gets hot really easily, so she doesn't really need it. I might spend a long time tomorrow, if its warm enough giving her a bath. I will see if i can find any of the things you suggested and, if they don't work, then she will have to remain green and brown except on special occasions :P

*gloomily*
Have given up: I now say I have a dun or bay depending on the amount of mud he has managed to stick to himself. He LOATHES being bathed. If you even wash him down after a ride, he'll start to buckle his legs to roll tied up in the yard.... v. v ticklish! Have to use a damp towel to wipe the sweaty bits.

He is even able to glue mud between his eyes.... hey ho. He is, however, a very happy horse and extremely pleased with himself when he is plastered.....:p

The answer to ur Q is.... You can't! :) greys are impossible to keep clean unless u rug them, bandage them up & keep them stabled for life! mine loves mud & rolling. so is always a tinge of green! hehe.

Given up as well. Takes longer to get little grey welshie (no plaiting) ready for show than bay mare twice his size (with plaits)! Cowboy magic does the trick but quite expensive to use all the time. Baby wipes work quite well on small stains - and they smell lovely afterwards!

It is a nightmare !! I keep a summer sheet on mine under his lightweight turnout - just easier to wash summer sheet than turnout. I use baby wipes on the small stains and spot wash the larger ones with baby bath, cheap and it works ! Just need to keep the grooming up together and keep washing the tail as if that gets yellow its a pain to get white again ! It takes a bit of work but it's worth it when you see them all done up and gleaming !!

see the thing is with taz being cold, its not normal as he's a big irish draught so really should be out with no rug at the moment but vet says he's all normal haha :) so even a wee rain sheet before a show would work other than that its almost impossible

Well apart from rugs (which Will can wear and still get poo stains underneath ) I recently bought some Stain Master from Carr & Day & Martin and it really does work. I was shocked but I would definitely recommend it and you get your money back if you don't like it. I also use the dream coat now as well. For manes and tails I always condition spray them as it does seem to help repell the poo from sticking to the hairs and turning them yellow. Failing that, I always seem to have a damp sponge handy. If it's not mud it's grass stains!

Thanks guys! We tried baby wipes today, they really do work! Going to work at her tomorrow, and try and get the worst of it off her, so she vaguely looks grey skewbald again haha.

It is imposible to keep a grey horse clean! They seem to be the only colour that can find a tiny bit of mud/poo in a perfectly clean place and plaster themselves head to toe in it!!! :D The best thing to clean them with is green fairy liquid with warm water, so far its got every tough stain out, then when you've washed legs make a paste out of talcun powder and paint on to legs with a little paint brush them brush excess off when dry and you will have very WHITE legs! :)

Wash stable and grass stains off with warm water every day. It's amazing how much easier it is to get them cleaned if you don't let the dirt actually stain the coat :)
