I've just started doing the Couch25K programme using the NHS podcasts. I'm normally completely rubbish at exercising but I'm finding this surprisingly easy and I'm even starting to see why people get really into running
Pilates is supposed to be really good for building up core strength. I'm hoping to start going to a pilates class soon as well.
Run with the dogs 3-4 times a week and core strengthening exercises and weights in front of telly in the evening. Easy to do, no cost and you can take your running shoes anywhere - I've been doing it for over 20 years now.
I do cycle but not finding the time ATM. I run too, not that I'm very good, and find I can achieve more (fitness wise) in a 30 min run than a 1.5 hour cycle. It's also easier just to get up in the morning, do a 30 min run to get your day started then go to work. Cycling takes an age to get ready for, then you have to be out for ages to get much benefit... am liking running at the mo
I find poo picking for three and luging it up and down hills along with water for 3 again up and down hills keeps me pretty fit! Then there's the 20 mins walk to and from the field. I use the Wii fit plus when at home and other than ride 6 times a week don't do anything else. Maybe i'm lucky but I do believe i'm fitter than most at the yard.
Looking after the horses on a hill, and the sheep, and the geese, and the dogs, keeps me strong if not fit (ie can lift heavy stuff and have stamina but could be out run speed wise by most things!)
Well that's the thing, as soon as I'm a horse owner the gym membership will have to go!! So it'll be free exercise such as running and cycling for me, plus lots of riding/mucking out/lugging heavy stuff....bliss!!
I gym, classes and swim now as giving the horse a summer holiday so his shoes can come off - used to also be riding ect! I do lots of horses on the yard too though
I gave up my gym membership when I moved my horses to home about 5 years ago thinking lack of time and money and getting exercise poo picking etc anyway. However have just joined again as felt I needed to do more. Am now swimming 2-3 times a week and trying to do a Pilates type class once a week. Not sure if it will last though!
I box 5/6 days a week and go to the gym at work sometimes too.
Bear in mind I've only started back at boxing after a 7 yet break, and I have got pretty hefty. I have lost 10.5lbs in 2.5 weeks doing the boxing and boxing ultimate fitness.
If you want a sport that strengthens your core muscles then this is it. Your exercises normally focus on your abdominals, and punching / shadow boxing comes from the waist / shoulders!
I eat healthy (aside from the odd packet of sweets or takeaway ^^) and walk my dog and sometimes my horse (we'll be riding soon hopefully!) that's always kept me in pretty good shape but I'll be hitting the gym soon too
I do an awful lot of walking, I do over 11 miles a week just walking to and from the station for work, thats without getting off at the other end and where I have to go from there. I also take the stairs instead of the lift of a morning and at lunch, so im 5 floors up but each floor has 3 flights of stairs to it. I also walk back down. Im forever up and down out of my chair all day too.
Saturdays I ride for a few hours and Sundays I usually go out with the dogs for a walk.
As for food, I tend to eat what I like, BUT i dont snack, never have done. So 3 decent meals a day and iv cut sugar out of tea (unless im feeling pooped and need a little pick me up) and drink lots of water.
I kickbox once a week, swim once a week, gym once a week and cycle 3 times a week and ride 4 times a week. With the cycling i go up hills and the mountain so not your usual easy run of the mill stuff.......
My god you lot! How do you make the time for all your fitness routines outside of keeping/riding a horse and work? (for those of you that do).
I'm up at 6am, breakfast & making pack lunches, dog walking for 6.30am then shower at 7am, leave for the stables at 7.30 to arrive for 8.am. After doing horsey duties leave for work to arrive for 9 am.
Arrive home at 7.30 if I don't ride or much later if I do. I'm too pooped to be then going out to the gym or whatever!
I used to have a gym membership, used to be on a constant diet now I have a horse, 3 dogs and a 4 year old, have never been fitter and am consistently in a size 12
I've been trying to lose weight and have been using Jillian Michaels dvds at home for about a week as well as horse riding and ballroom dancing. I feel so much fitter, my stomach is flatter and I can walk up the 4 flights of stairs at work amost without getting out of breath! The workout only takes 20 minutes, and she does 3 circuits, 3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio, one minute abs. Highly recommended! I can't stand the gym but this is 20 minutes of pain and then its over till the next day!
I cycle 10 miles first thing in the morning to exercise my dogs before work, three times per week I run with my non-horsey girlfriends and I try to do some strength/resistance work three times a week in front of the TV too. All in between riding and working
It's MUCH easier in the summer that's all I can say!
I walk and jog through my fields when the days chores are done. I ride most everyday multiple horses. As well as all the other chores. Im weird as I don't like exercising with or in front of people. Riding, fine. Just one of my things. Winter time I use my stair case as a workout machine. Sustained, not just up or down once.
My horses have been watching me in the evenings. The look on their faces is quite priceless. Look, fat arse is actually doing something besides ride us! LOL!
Run and swim, general fitness stuff including weights in front of the tv, intend to start cycling again on return to the uk, and hope to take up boxing. Ride 5 or so a day, and hope to be fit enough to do some triathlon.
