how do *you* keep fit?

Edited to add, I think that gymwise, it's important to find the right place - my previous gym was a bit crap cos the owner was really grumpy and had a chosen clique - at the new place, all the staff are genuinely lovely, friendly and very encouraging, and make an effort to get to know names etc. It actually makes me want to go!

I got so fed up with gyms being annoying that I spent probably 3 years worth of membership money building my own - it's open whenever I feel like it and I don't get irritated with waiting to use stuff. Or having to re-rack other folks weights... :)

Having said that, due to illness I've gone a bit fat and unfit, so have just started a rider fitness class which focusses on core, balance and leg strength. Will also be incorporating rowing and weights, and possibly running when I'm lighter. Incidentally, my calves were the skinniest they've ever been when I was running (up to half marathon) so that instructors comment didn't apply to me either :D

Yes having to tidy up after others is my main peeve, but I can deal with it at this place!

Agreed on the calves front, mine have always been errrm "shapely" but were at their tightest and leanest when I was running!

Wow i feel lazy reading this! Luckily i am naturally slim (8-10)but with two children and two jobs riding really is only my main exercise. Plus i have something going on with my sacroiliac joint and if i do too much, it hurts, and i had a hernia op last year which i am not convinced is 100%..... i am trying to treat my poor body kindly, i think if i hit the gym i would *die*!

Ive always 'ran' since school. Various distances. Find it keeps me sane for some reason. Sadly I can't do it just now with young children... Brisk walk up the hill with pram is about as much as I have time for right now.

Will get back to it when I can.

Running is free as well. Although had an ITB syndrome issue, which is fairly common. Need to do strengthening exercises.
