There's some blue powder that you can mix with hot water and it really does work! Can't remember name but it's a showing type product. Another little tip if you are going to a competition and you can't get it completely white, rub some chalk through it.

That's quite worrying when you think that if it makes a horses tail white, what does it do to the poor babies hair!

Equine blue is great stuff get from equineblue.com. I use it mixed in shampoo and conditioner and also a little in final rinse water to get Chancer's white areas sparkling.

For tails you can mix the blue in a bucket of very hot water and put the tail in - but not the dock area for about 10 mins - then wash the tail as normal. If it goes too blue, then shampoo again.

I find tresume deep cleansing shampoo really good.

Finally, you cannot beat using a tailbag - tailgator ones are excellent. Plait, bag and fold up and forget. One of my fav products.

Natural Whitening shampoo from www.natural-equine.co.uk
I was very sceptical that it would work but was trying to get away from the about of blue stuff I was using as was always worried I got it all out (on body more than tail) but it is Fab and you don't need to use much at all bottle has lasted me nearly a year on a regularly washed skewbald.

I use silver-hair shampoo, exactly as in granny-hair shampoo

Works fantastic if it's not too dirty.

Heard that betadine shampoo also works perfect.

My pony had to have one of her feet in a bag with betadine-water for two days to disinfect it. It had never been whiter before!

Plain old simple DAZ!

With my grey I used to wash her tail with warm water & washing up liquid 1st to get the surface muck off, rinse, then get some Daz and work it through the end of the tail & leave it on for 10 mins or so whilst I did other jobs.

I never put it on the dock just incase it had a reaction to the skin.

Do be very careful with any washing products that might have enzymes - that is, all the biological ones, washing up or washing powder - they'll not just have a reaction on the skin, they can melt the dock

take deep, deep care
