I decided not to ride tonight because my gammy left leg has been playing up since I went xc on Sunday and I wanted to rest it. Decided to lunge instead and she went nicely until I decided to finish and walk back. For no apparent reason D jumped up in the air as if being eaten by a wolf and landed on the side of my right foot.

It hurting more by the minute....

Ouchies!!

Ok - can you wiggle your toes? and if so is there any sharp pain at all?

I would recommend that you rest it, with it raised and iced (bag of frozen peas is best as it folds round your foot and plenty of arnica.

swelling is a good indication and if you're having trouble moving toes or other parts of your foot. i think i did mine a year or so ago, nutty mare jumped on me, but i never found out just left it and it got better eventually although it does still hurt every so often.

SU love the smiley!

I can just about twitch them pathetically so I'm guessing probably not broken but hurts like f*^k.

OH is making me dinner

Would definately milk the sympathy - you need to keep it raised and ice changed on a regular basis all weekend. I hear regular home cooked meals and wine really help with healing......and definately no housework - that causes an almost instant relapse.......

Daisy is a silly big lump!! Inca has had her paddock extended by about 3 blades of grass - you have never seen so much excitement in a cob.....

I broke my finger a couple of years ago when my horse ran out at a fence and threw his neck against my hand. It was sticking out so I decided to put it back (so stupid i know but i really hate hospitals) went to tecos bought some tape and strapped them up. Next day about 12pm I was getting awful tingling pain so went a&e and it was broken.
If you get major swelling or tingling pain (this is later stages of swelling) its broken.
I sincerely hope it's not xx

With an x-ray. If your big toe is not involved, hospitals do not tend to x-ray toes or forefeet.

Elevate the foot, ice it and take anti-inflammatories if you can.

There isnt a definite way to know if you have broken your foot without an x-ray. If you are at all worried go to your local A&E.

I had a horse jump on my foot as a child, the foot was not broken, but swelled up and was very bruised for at least 6 weeks and over 20 years later, I still have a numb area, where the nerves were damaged.

Last year, my 800 kg horse accidentally stood on my big toe, how the toe was not broken I do not know. I went to A&E as the nail was broken. The toe was fine, but the nail needed to have a hole made in it to allow the bruising out.

I hope your toe is ok, you will need lots of cups of tea and glasses of wine, TLC, no housework, and breakfasts in bed for at least 6 weeks.

Take it easy.

Would just like to point out I broke a bone in my foot, went for x rays at a and e as I was in pain....and they missed the break! I continued to hobble around for 3 weeks. There was no swelling and I could move all of my toes no problem. Sure it hurt a bit but I could still do it.

It was only while I was on a training course in Manchester 3 weeks later that my foot started to swell and it was discovered I have a fractured metatarsal.

I then managed to fracture foot bones in the same foot a further two times in 18 months.....they never did figure out why, they just kept on snapping by themselves!!

when i broke my two outer metatarsals I could bear weight on it but it was the action of rolling my weight from my heel to toes that hurt like a b***er . If it is broken make sure they plaster it for the start rather than putting it in tubigrip for two weeks and then 8 weeks in plaster instead of just 6 weeks in plaster

Maybe I have a strupidly high pain threshold then because as I say I coul dwalk on mine....it was painful but I did it.

Also don't ice if you suspect a break....can end up causing yourself a load more pain as the cold goes straight into the fracture cause great pain in the nerves.
