Without an intrustor? or books!! obv they wont be as perfect but its just something do keep me and ebony busy over xmas holidays learning new stuff.. that will/could help us with jumping :) and its nice to learn them anyway

If you remember that the horses body should bend around your inside leg, your outside leg controls the quarters and the half halt is on the outside rein, flexing to the inside, then all the movements can be worked out. It's the carrying them out thats hard!
 
you've seen it done on dvds and tele, just try yourself don't use any force or strong aids, let your weight go in the direction of the movement if you want to move sideways, be content with a few steps, always go forward into the movement, think what you want and imagine it happening and just ride it!
if the horse responds for a few steps just walk on forward, make it soft and easy with lots of praise, there is too much mystic around these things, they are really quite easy and all horse can do them, keep it simple, make it fun and remember when your horse starts to do these things he's only learning, in time it will become a lot better.
