after some general advice really. prince has got spavins in both hocks and kissing spines from T14-T16. these have both been injected with cortisone but never having had a horse with spavins im interested in any advice you can offer. he is on a weeks rest and then a week walking in hand then being re assessed but what is the long term managment, are there any supplements you use, any considerations you take with workload.
advice appreciated. ta muchly xx

yes you can, he has mild kissing spines that has been injected with cortisone, if he is elidgable for sugery i will take it but as it is only a mild inpingment i dont think he will be.

My mare has spavin and the best thing for it is excercise!! it keeps the joint mobile and supple, its best to treat it the same way as you would an arthritic horse. make sure you warm up and cool down really well, but keep excercising the joints :)
My girl is on Synequin which does an amazing job but is pretty expensive. I think it is Riaflex (sp?!) that is a lot cheaper but seems to work just aswell :)
