Hi,

i am looking to buy my 1st pony soon but he is only being sold with his bridle. How do you fit a saddle? where do you measure etc? I have no idea.
Thanks!

p.s hes 13hh and im 5'2"

If you don’t have any idea on fitting a saddle then I would suggest getting a registered saddler out to fit one. it may seem like a waste of money or whatever but the problems you could cause with a inadequet saddle fit will cost a lot more to put right!

Best of luck with him.

Totally agree with Bexaco. A poor / ill fitting saddle can do horrendous things to your pony and could potentially end in a nasty accident (from experience). It is just as important as having your horse shod regularly and the right bit in its mouth.

I would never put a saddle on my horse without it being professionally fitted! My poor lad has just had his saddle near enough completely re-fitted and re-sized and over £200 pounds worth of physio, and I caught the signs early on. You and your horse will be so much happier with a properly fitting saddle, a saddle doesn’t just have to fit the hose, it should also help you sit correctly and avoid unnecessary pressure on the horses back etc. Good Luck with your new horse!
