How do you spend your warm up time before dressage test?

lol yeah I'm hoping the ring tomorrow will be quiet, I hate getting dirty looks when they're the ones cutting me up. I'm currently covered in dirty black muck from cleaning my tack... makes you wonder why we do it really lol

[/ QUOTE ] One day I'm going to end up saying something to them. It will be educational (ringcraft), but it won't be pretty!

Usually spend most of it in the loo, can't stop wee'ingcan't wait to have box with a toilet in it!.

When I do get on board am usually run up the boards by someone riding much bigger horse who assumes right of way or a numpty who isn't looking where they are going.

Try to settle my nerves by talking to horse, a lot, realise I'm the only one talking to horse, feel embarassed, scuttle back to lorry......

Glad I'm not the only one who talks to their horse in the warm-up! Usually to nervious to be embarssed but have decided that anything that makes me feel better has to benefit horse. I have to admit to talking to him for the first half of our first ever prelim.
I'm an unaffilicated prelim/novice person. Usually spend first 10 mins walk on a long rein getting him (and me) to relax, trot initially on long rein, pick him up and then do some canter transitions to make sure listening. Yeah right thats whats supposed to happen. Normally after first trot have to stop cos nose is running, hyperventilating as so nervous so cant breath, panicking about getting in other people way, horse is like chill out mum, then oh my go I've got to go in!! Luckily last time I went my instructor came to watch so she was telling what to do from sidelines so at least horse got a proper warm up. Daft really find warm-up more nerve wrecking than actual test.

I usually spend my warm up flexing, transitions and different speeds within paces. I usually get on an hour before as my horse can be either be laid back or a tense spooky nightmare and you never know which it will be so best to be organised.

From reading these replies you can tell who events and who does normal dressage. Eventing you get a big field to warm up in - so loads of space and you can do serpentines and small circles etc. Pure dressage you are stuck in a tiny warm up and get run over.

i compete at elemantary and i usually take about 40 mins working in bofore a dressage test.
10 mins walking and streching
then trotting around deep and low.
walk canter trans.
lateral work
extending and collecting
walk round 10 mins before im in and get someone to take horses boots off then do a few trans before im in

Trying not to get bucked off or run away with...

Atm it's all about getting him calm & collected cos the prob isn't so much the movements but the fact that he goes mental at shows... Joys of being 5...
