How do you stop a dog going to ground

Terrier=earth..that should give you a clue! Fence off Brock`s setts with an electric line at about a foot high, end of problem, and also prevents brock spreading his numerous fleas onto the dog`s territory. Can never understand the mentality of finding the base instinct of a breed offensive. Choose more carefully next time. I have mostly stopped breeding my working Lakies because of the numpties that bought them and tried to turn them into pet lap dogs with bling collars. So degrading!

I will be passing all this info on to my friend and then it is up to them what they choose to do.

East Kent please note this is not my dog.

Putting a dog in a bling collar might be degrading for you but the dog has no concept of what he is wearing.

Boolavogue funnily enough Ive been told in the past by shepherds and sheep farmers that a Collie gone rogue is the worse sheep killer there is.

G16 thank you it is always helpful knowing what other people with similar dogs do.

My own dogs are Dobermanns and a Lancashire Heeler both breeds Ive owned before and both picked for their breed instincts. The Dobes keep people away and the Lancashire Heelers work the cattle and keep the rabbit population down.

You can't. My JR luckily does not do it but the Patterdale does. I'm very careful where I walk him and put him on the lead when I know a badger sett is coming up.

It's bred into them. I didn't encourage him to do it. He just does.

I don't think they ever will stop it but if no one can see into their garden I'm sure something could accidently block the badgers (and terriers) access holes.
OH was hunt terrierman and his workers were only walked where there were no holes, which wouldn't work in your own garden! What a nightmare, but I suspect it would be like me expecting my lurcher not to chase anything that runs.
BoolavogueDC I thought it was well known that frustrated untrained instinct is what causes GSDs and collies who DON'T work to go off and kill sheep. The same thing as watching a Golden Retriever fetch a stick, its all instinct.
