How do you store long length of used electric fence tape in such a way that it does not become tangled up and is ready for use?

Back on the original reel if possible, or else wound around something else... bit of stiff cardboard would do at a push :)

On its original roll if you have it. Although elec tape and rope does have a mind of its own and in my experience can be put away all neat and ready for use and it still manages to get knotted up!!

You can get reels for it, I think they are called Rappa reels or something...

I attach some sandpaper to old squash bottles (to add grip) and wind the tape around those though as I am a cheapskate!

Just an idea but you could try going into an electrical wholesalers such as B&Q or somewhere like that and asking whether they've got any old "cotton reel" type rolls which they used to use to store electric cable, rope etc on.

My dad got some really useful storage reels like this; but it was some years ago, dunno if its still possible to get them. But maybe worth a try?

Alternatively, you can get reels at places like mole valley/farmers outlets, which you can use and which can then be used straight out to the field as its possible to lock them into position so your leccy fence is fully tensioned (and much safer).

Whind it from my elbow to my hand use the end to bind it in the middle then label it to say where it came from then I a piece exactly the correct length when o put a fence there again

Honestly I junk it all in an empty feed bag and then get cross when I need to use it again!!! I've tried loads of tying up methods and it always gets tangled some how.
B&Q or old hose reel sounds like a good idea.

Pretty much what I do, gather it in like a lunge line, then tie something round it. I can never get it back on the reel. Nowadays we use the electric rope, which is much easier and doesn't knot so much!

same apart from the label, i'm never that organised! the trick is knowing how to unravel it when you use it again so that it doesn't tangle :P

LOL What innovated (and mostly not very good!!) ideas!! Over here farm supplies shops sell fencing reels that are made for the job......

Old hifi bag, poke a hole in the bottom and thread the tape through. Then feed all the tape into the bag, loose, when you get to the other end tie it to the bit poking out the bottom and tie the neck of the bag with string.
When you want to use just pull as much out as you need and tie the bad to a post, just make sure the bit at the bottom isn't touching the floor.
Doing this the tape never gets in a tangle and its easier than winding onto a reel.

I'd have to kill you if I had to deal with this sort of behaviour :p :D

My ex once did the round the hand elbow method on some (sheep) electric rope, which is very thin stuff. It went in the bin after that as there was no untangling it. Elec wire is even worse.

I lent some tape too my daughters friend, when it was returned it was dumped outside my door in a huge tangled mess!!! :( I wont ever lend anything too her again!!

I try to gather it on my arm and tie with the end, but it still gets tangled and I get tape rage, I was doing well putting it back on the reel but now it has knots from multiple breakages, I think I'm just going to cut it at the knots and make manageable extra pieces.

Store on original reel or an old hose reel. If you have neither then get a plank of wood possibly around 2' long & about 6" wide or wider & cut a 'V' out of each end. Then use this to wrap your tape or rope around. It is inexpensive & will keep your tape/role free from tangles. ;)
