Sick of having a big messy rug pile where the rug I want is always at the bottom :rolleyes3:

I like the rug racks that go on the wall (would have to ask YO though) and have heard of people keeping theirs in old chest freezers :D I don't have the original bags anymore but that may have been a good way to keep them tidy as well...need some ideas and opinions!

How do you all store your rugs?

They get folded and put on shelves when stacked before cleaning or in regular use, once cleaned they come back in bags and these are put in a wooden box my dad made :)

I have 5 arm rug racks for my turnouts which are in a spare stable. Stable rugs are washed, put in zipped bags and stored on shelving (I very rarely use stable rugs these days). Other rugs eg fleeces, thermatex etc are stored in the large plastic crates you can get from a DIY store.

Dirty ones that aren't going to be used until they're cleaned are chucked in a pile in a corner of the garage, rugs in use (this time of year I'm swapping between mediums/lights) are folded in the boot of my car as I have no storage at the yard, and clean rugs are stored in an old wardrobe in the garage, although I may need an extra wardrobe soon!
Oh and I've got a few misc/spare/emergency rugs in my lorry.

My turnouts are hung from big nails in the feed room, ok but when rain is driving the wall gets wet so have to move them! Fleeces, sheets etc in an old wardrobe in tack room. Some others ie ones used a bit hung from hooks in stables. My ponies/horses do not have many - 2-3 each so not too much of an issue.

Stored hanging up on nails in my garage next to my feed - i find this keeps them from getting musty and not many spiders work their way into the folds. Rugs I'm using often live in my car. :-P

Hi, Bob the nota cob here, mikes OH and the worlds only computer literate horse. I am seriously being short changed on the rug front . It seems that everyone else has the "emelda Marcos, rug collection" . I have handmedowns and a pretty poor collection too! I have even had charitable donations from other liveries ,oh the shame! And as for cleaning rugs ,well forget it .

Mine are all in the original rug bags. I flip the card label around inside the pocket on the outside of the bag, and label each rug. So each bag has a label inside it saying which horse the rug belongs to, and what sort of rug it is. The majority of them are stored in the overhang above my stable doors - fabulous hidden shelf! And then those that are rarely used - the smart thermatexes for competing etc. - are in a big rug chest in the tack room.

I'm another one that tries to keep the original bag they came in, otherwise I keep them in the clear plastic sack/bag the rug washing company return them in. Then they are stored away in big plastic b&q storage chests X

The ones being used, ie winter are kept on the rug rack in my tackroom. The ones currently not is use ie summer weight/ underrugs etc are kept in small wheelie bins which can hold quite a few. I write in marker pen on the lid which weight of rugs etc so I know where to find them. The wheelie bins can be purchased cheaply from DIY stores.

Hi Bob, maybe show your owner this thread so he knows how you feel. Im Pan, a computer literate ex polo pony and I indeed have a vast collection of rugs, mostly because I am a princess and my mother has a bit of a rug addiction. They are often getting washed because most have handy removable liners, so I get that clean rug feeling quite a lot.

Mine when in use are hung on a rope (threaded through olastic pipe- to allow them to dry better) , in my stable where I can admire them and scratch my arse on them. When not in use I think they go in a magic white box similar to one that holds my food. She doesnt know I know, but i know its in there!

we have the wall racks in the horses stables so all rugs in use stay there the rest are storedvin chest freezers, we swap the rugs over in the changing seasons

Rugs that aren't being used are stored in tackroom in a garden storage box. I've a two arm rug rack in the tackroom as well which rugs that are in use go on. If rugs are wet when they're taken off I've put baler twine/hose makeshift rug rack under the underhang of the stables so that they can dry easier.

Mine are stored on shelves in our shed that doubles as a tack room (pony lives out 24/7 at home). I do try to keep them folded neatly but doesn't always work!

Every stable has at least 1 of theses in the corner of the walls http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STUBBS-3-...285160?hash=item3f61b66d68:g:K2MAAOSw2GlXHMxq
Every livery has a chest freezer to keep all the rugs not in use and ( along with their garden truck) which is in tack room ) They have ample storage for rugs in use and stored and rugs dry nicely
Can't see why yard owner would object to a rug rack, I don't mind what they do in their stables as long as they ask anything drilled.
