How do you tell a farrier that you................

I’ve changed farriers twice since i've had Jed the first one was really rubbish and messed his feet up to the brink of lameness, the second was really funny with me when we got days mixed up and basically told me to F off.

Now his feet are starting to look bad. He has amazing feet so there is no reason for them to start going out of shape, am I correct?

The new farrier I have found is currently shoeing 3 of my friend’s horses one of which has navicular and rotating pedal bones and he has done an amazing job with his feet, hence the reason I have chosen him.

It was second farrier that spoke to me bad. Sorry didnt explain well hehe.

Im on the 3rd and he is a nice guy but not very good with his feet.

Farriers have a never ending Q of customers so i am sure he won't be to upset when you tell him he is no longer wanted.

Phone him and just say thanks for the service but you won't be needing him back to shoe your horse anymore.
 
At the end of the day your farrier is providing you a service that you are paying for . If that service is not to the standard that you want then you just tell them and find someone else that will do the job how you want them to.
Say for example you had a window cleaner that left smears all over your windows you wouldn't think twice about explaining to them that you don't need them and then find someone else would you?!!
 
Someone at at our yard just never booked the specific farrier again... says it all really.

I personally would just say you're going to another farrier as you have been recommended to try him by a friend. Theres no need to elaborate as you pay him to do the work, not to be a friend ;o) I say this as you never know, you may need him one day to put a shoe back on etc etc..

That would be great but i already have him booked in for the next time.

It would be easier to not say anything but i think its courtious (sp?) to let him know.

And he is always saying how busy he is and that he works 7 days to fit everyone in so maybe it will be a relief for him

You could just say that you were going to use the yard farrier as it was easier? Then only 1 livery had to go to the yard to hold the horses so you could all take it in turns?
 
I had to do this - but the farrier solved the problem for me by a) never answering his phone and b) not having voicemail. I have only met him once so I didn't feel it appropriate to text. So he just never got told. My YO just doesn't book him for me. I feel awful but to be honest, I spent 2 weeks trying to call him and no joy at all. I was planning to just be honest - say I'm concerned, and my old remedial farrier has recommended someone to me who may be able to fix this problem, but thank you for all work done to date (not that I particulary felt that but I wanted to be polite).
 
I had to do this recently. Fortunately I knew he doesn't answer his phone in the evening so I chickened out, rang in the night and left a message saying that I was using someone else.
 
Omg i have this predicament at the mo too! He is so nice and friendly and have had him for years with my other pony with good results yet am appaled by the state of my tbs feet so ive changed to an AMAZING younger farrier who is excellent. I hide whenever i see the old one and to top it off he keeps asking about my horse....ahhhh
