How do you think you are viewed on here?

Curious really having read the biting your tongue post.

How do you think others view you on here (regarding horsey issues rather than soapbox-type issues). Do you think you come across as more/less knowledgeable than you really are? Do you think people listen to and respect your advice or dismiss you posts out of hand? Are you more confident about expressing your views on horsey issues on here than down your yard? If you are different on here than real life why is that?

This is not a patting your ego post! Just curious about how you think you are viewed and whether the forum agrees!
 
I rarely comment on horsey things on here as I am well aware of the veiw held by many people that as I have never owned a horse and am only a 'riding school client' I must know nothing about either riding or horse care.

Im not the most conventional advice giver and sometimes I feel that my experience isnt really relied on, but cant blame no one for that as they dont know me!
Regarding expressing my views, I am nothing in real life like I am on here. My favourite terms are, 'of course thats not going to work you f'ing muppet' and 'what the f#ck else did you expect'

I just seem to come on here for advice really, not keen on dispensing it cause feel may got shot down if i'm wrong...

Much more confident on my own yard at dispensing advice cause all the younger kids know that i have more or less seen and done it before.

I think i may appear indecisive on here, and worry about things too much!!! Even though if you met me at the yard i'm probably the most knowledgable on vet/competition issues..
 
Not very knowledgeable and a bit odd perhaps!
I tend to be the one with most knowledge as we are a family run yard and I'm the oldest sibling on the yard so naturally I know more than the younger ones.
I don't really give out advice as I don't feel qualified to
 
I have no idea! Can someone tell me? I don't really think that anyone knows who I am as I am fairly new. I get worried that I come across a bit snobby and like I try and sound more knowledgable than I really am, which is really not what I intend to do, if I do! (Oh dear that really doesnt make sense!). I also mainly come on here to get advice and learn lots, I love HHO because there are so many very experienced people which otherwise I wouldn't have the oppertunity to talk to.

My self-confidence lets me down alot and i stuggle to put things into words (like now!!), so i often say nothing, just incase it comes out wrong,

I hope I come across as friendly, positive & helpful...

I do try to offer advice if it's a situation that I've been in before, & find it reassuring that there's always someone more knowledgeable on here who's been there & done that. I don't give answers if I'd be 'guessing', & leave it to someone more experienced.
 
my saying is 'i know what i know' !!

I know a lot, but I dont post as I am not confident enough to be shot down as being wrong by others. So I avoid by not giving alot of advice.

Everyone does everything differently but there are some that just think different is plaily wrong
 
i dont know as im very new to this site,i do post a few things but again dont want to sound like a div so try not to say alot untill i get brave !!
we are also a family run yard and ive ridden and been around horses all my life (nearly 30 years !!)
so i know quite alot but am not confident enough to rite it !!!!
 
I would think I come across as being outspoken. I generally don't care whether people take my advice or not and I rarely take offence at anything directed towards me.

I don't know really - I'd think some people like me and some people don't - that's their prerogative.

I don't know really, probably a silly little girl who knows nothing! I hope I don't come across as trying to sound more knowledgeable than I am. I only usually give advice if it's something I've experienced first hand, if not I read other peoples' replies and often learn something new.

I have no idea!..... I am fairly new to this forum dispite lurking for sometime..... and only try and post if I have something useful to contribute or am struggling with something or a concept. So I probably come across as one of those "idiots that think they know it all but actually know Bugger all" shame since i have never ever made that claim....

ah well, how to win friends and influence people eh. (and I try and be careful with my wording etc too!)
 
That when I post on horse related threads, how the hell would I know because I'm just a riding school client and why would I know anything at all, especially about stable management issues. Oh and only ridden stiff cobs without making it into canter

I don't really know, I've never felt that people really respond to any posts I make other than to offer advice. I try not to give advice to people as I know I'll probably turn out to be completely wrong, but when I do it will be about something I have experience in, for example the recent tendon injury threads in the vet forum. I tried hard in those not to sound like I knew too much in case anyone thought I knew more than I did, as I know what happens on here when it is found that someone doesn't know as much as they want others to think they do (if that makes sense)! TBH I feel a bit like wallpaper on here, people glance at me but don't really acknowledge me; know I'm here but wouldn't know if I wasn't. To that end I suppose I just come across as a random person who doesn't warrant much attention! That's how I think I probably come across in RL too!

Apparently in RL I am difficult to talk to, I know I'm quiet and TBH I reckon I'm a bit hard of hearing (I think my most used words are 'pardon' and 'sorry'!) and it's not all that I'm just very quiet and shy. I try not to express horsey views in RL as I spend my time at my yard and at work surrounded by much more knowledgable people so know I will be proved wrong more often than not, but on here I am a bit freer as I know that I won't ever meet most of you!

I know not everyone thinks that and I know it sounds like I have a chip on my shoulder about it - I really don't. The fact is that a lot of people on this forum really look down on those of us who just ride at riding schools and have never had our own horses - as seen by the number of threads slating riding schools, their horses and their clients

Just to reiterate my post, it's not a holier than thou attitude, it's just I personally wish people would open then eyes a little bit more.

Take Jak's thread about the buying a horse before you're ready - classic example of the way RSs, their horses and clients are ridiculed

It's the same idea/bases that all college students are tarred with the "they've got no practical experience" brush
